SilkAir Economy Class MDC-SIN

One day this flight will be on time!

There’s been some remodelling at Manado Airport, but it’s still as simple as it was last time I was there. More food options, less souvenirs.

Honestly, I was so tired on this flight. I’d had so little sleep in the previous 2 weeks due to diving during the day, and then having to work every night.

We got offered a small bag of mixed nuts and some longlife juice just after takeoff. I asked for water and got it quickly. Didn’t want the nuts at the time, but in hindsight, something salty may have helped with my headache.

Lunch was eventually served: fruit, vegetables, rice, breadroll, and dairy free spread. The vegetables consisted of mushroom, eggplant, potato, and diced tomato, but no sauce. Edible, although incredibly bland. So bland I actually used both the dairy free spread and the little sachet of salt you get with every meal on the vegetables. Again, the pineapple tasted like it came straight out of a tin of Golden Circle. I don’t know why SilkAir think this is necessary given the abundance of good quality, cheap pineapple in this region!

VGML lunch from Manado to Singapore

Made up some time along the way, so we only landed a little late. I had a 90 minute connection, which was cut to around an hour due to the late arrival of the flight from Manado. Thankfully no mad dash, but also no time for stuffing round at the shops either. My credit card probably thanks me, although I really wanted something specific and didn’t have time to go terminal hopping to find it. Next time!

Sleepy…Didn’t even have time for a Starbucks run in between flights. No coffee makes me a sad panda 😦

Too much blood in my caffeine stream!

After takeoff we got the obligatory peanuts and drink offering. Caffeine!

Then, random episodes of Glee…Puppet Master Blaine cracks me up! The movies on offer weren’t all that appealing.

Dinner service was prompt. Salad with French dressing, rice and vegetables, some kind of jello dessert with lychees, crackers, breadroll, and dairy free spread. Came with a glass of longlife juice. Ate the salad (sans dressing), and the rice and vegetables. The jello may or may not have been ok for me to eat, but it did have chunks in it, and I didn’t want to take the risk. I also can not reiterate enough just how much I hate lychees, even the smell makes me dry heave. The crackers and breadroll were decidedly non gluten free.

IMG_0085A little boring, but it was mostly edible.

I miss business class!

SilkAir Economy Class SIN – MDC

Ah, Manado. One day maybe the flight will actually depart on time…

A fairly old Airbus A320 plane, with no seatback IFE. Though amazingly, they had those tiny little overhead screens, and guess what they were showing? A documentary on diving in Malpascua!

Next dive trip? Perhaps!

As for food, we got offered juice or water after takeoff, along with a bag of mixed nuts. I didn’t want the nuts. They confirmed my VGML was loaded, which was a start.

The meal was more of a brunch type thing. Fruit, some vegetables, and a breadroll.

I think the watermelon was fresh, but the pineapple tasted like it’d come out of a tin of Golden Circle…

The veggies were a bit soggy, but otherwise edible. Breadroll was obviously off limits for gluten.

Had better. Had worse.

We landed a bit late, but not too bad. Usual clusterfuck at customs and the baggage carousel. I love Indo, but the chaos drives me insane.

Singapore Airlines Economy Class PER – SIN

I should nickname this flight “Tigger“, because it liked to bounce!

So much turbulence.

For once I was glad to be in economy. I booked this flight so late that business class fares were astronomical. Couldn’t justify it. Turned out to be a blessing in disguise. I was near the front of the economy cabin with a row to myself, but in business? A screaming baby. Who screamed for about 60% of the overnight flight.

I hate kids.

Anyway, food…

Got a tiny packet of peanuts and a drink after takeoff. Standard fare on an overnight flight I guess.

It was a breakfast meal service. I got my VGML. It was mostly edible.

Fresh fruit, spicy chickpea and vegetable patties with tomato salsa, mushroom (singular), and spinach. Also came with dodgy longlife juice, a breadroll, strawberry jam, and dairy free spread. My thoughts on longlife juice are well known – I’d rather drink Coke. The breadroll was decidedly non-gluten free, but you can’t win them all. I left the spinach because I need a low iron diet.

The vege patties, salsa, mushroom, and fresh fruit were good though! Coffee was terrible though 😦

Had better. Had worse.

Landed on time, and ventured off to duty free, before my next flight. I hate not having lounge access!
